The goals of the association are to upgrade the quality of death education and patient care in hospitals, residential care facilities, churches, schools, community organizations and government facilities and to update the quality of counseling in the areas of death, dying, and bereavement. As part of their membership, members receive discounted subscription rates on official ADEC journals, DEATH STUDIES and OMEGA-JOURNAL OF DEATH AND DYING, as well as BEREAVEMENT MAGAZINE and THE THANATOLOGY NEWSLETTER.
